Northeast USA – If you’re looking for some peak color right now, northern New England is the place to be. The top of Maine is now in peek color, with the rest of the state following up close behind. High color is found in northern New Hampshire, northeastern Vermont (including portions of the Green Mountains), and the Adirondack Mountains in northeast New York. Leaf drop is mostly low in these areas.
Southeast USA – Maryland, Virginia, Deleware, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee. Except for the higher elevations of West Virginia and extreme western Maryland are still showing low color or no change.
Midwest USA – Northern Minnesota is on fire with fall color. Most of the rest of Minnesota, as well as northwest Wisconsin and the central upper Peninsula of Michigan, also show high color. The rest of the region, including Ohio, shows little or no change. Leaf drop in northern Minnesota is moderate, as expected when color reaches its peak. In other areas leaf drop is low.
Rocky Mountain Region – A photographer living in the region has just emailed us some photos taken over the weekend showing the golden Aspen of Colorado beginning to show the signs of the season, with more to follow in the coming weeks. (Look for Kristin Piljay’s photos in our upcoming 2nd edition of our fall color issue).
